Do you think, â€œI canâ€™t believe I published that!â€?? Do you hire a copywriter and just accept whatever they come up with? After all, they are professionals! </p>
<p>If your online marketing material stimulates an image in your mind that is just not you, likely youâ€™ve been trying to model your approach after someone else or youâ€™ve been using work produced by someone else without giving them the benefit of knowing you, learning your approach, sharing your ideas and interjecting your personality into the material. </p>
<p>Letâ€™s admit it. We all do it! </p>
<p>When we get ready to publish something online we surf the net. We look for articles, ezines, web pages or auto-responders that resemble what we are working on, usually those published by direct competitors or sometimes published by mentors that we admire â€“ successful online marketers. </p>

<p>Thereâ€™s lots of talk about branding in regard to online marketing. The basic principles of branding are to decide on the image you wish to portray and what message you want to drive home. </p>
<p>While some people could write a book on how to brand your business, there are really only a handful of factors to consider â€“ 1) your image; 2) your purpose; and 3) your marketing message. The purpose of a brand is to craft something that will stick in the minds of people and help them to remember your business. </p>
<p>Creating and building a strong brand does not have to compromise your personality. The only real decision is whether you want to be casual or professional. We all speak differently when we are in a business setting than we do when we are hanging out with friends, but either way, our whole personality doesnâ€™t change when we walk from one setting to the other. </p>

<p>If you do, you can&#8217;t just focus on one aspect of Internet marketing. What I mean is, don&#8217;t just think about ad copy or just about traffic generation. It takes an &#8220;all around&#8221; approach to succeed.</p>
<p>First, and foremost, you must get your website visitors&#8217; email addresses. Build your prospect list. Use not only a newsletter, but also use autoresponder ecourses, ebooks and reports. All should be given away; the only &#8220;payment&#8221; being their email address.</p>
<p>Put the signup forms for these ebooks, etc. on your navigation menu and on the content pages throughout your site. You never know which page your visitors will be seeing when they arrive.</p>
<p>Make each signup page a &#8220;sales&#8221; page. Why should they want the ebook or report? What are the benefits to them? Make it good.</p>
<p>Have great customer support. What? They&#8217;re not customers? Well, not yet, but they could be. Treat each subscriber and contact as if he or she is the best customer in the world and that person will be more likely to remain your subscriber.</p>
<p>Provide some way for your website visitors to provide feedback. It could be a community blog, forum, or even just a contact form. Just make sure there is some way that your visitors can communicate with you. Make sure that the link to your contact form is on every page of your website.</p>
<p>These days, I don&#8217;t recommend adding your actual email address to your site because of all the spam bots. They scour your site for your email and soon your inbox will fill up with junk.</p>
<p>Does your website look professional? If you just have a site full of blinking banners and ads, I don&#8217;t believe you&#8217;ll succeed in the long run. You need it to look nice &#8211; not fancy &#8211; just nice, and have valuable content for visitors. If you do, they&#8217;ll come back.</p>
<p>What about popups? You can use popup windows, but don&#8217;t go crazy with them. Personally, I do not stay on a site that has more than one popup. I have been on sites where so many windows appear that you can barely get away from the site. That is just plain rude in my book.</p>
<p>A word about promotion. In my opinion, the best way to promote your website is by writing articles. You need articles for your newsletter and to distribute to article directories and other publishers. This is how you get your &#8220;name&#8221; out in cyberspace&#8230;to the people who matter&#8230;the ones looking for good content for their own newsletters and websites.</p>
<p>And the most important key to success? Perseverance. Don&#8217;t give up at the first problem, or even the second. Find a mentor. Ask questions. Do whatever you have to do&#8230;but hang in there! You WILL have your OWN success story!</p>

What evidence there is to support the feasibility of a business opportunity is often anecdotal â€“ or we may be asked to take the word of a well known internet guru when he tells us that this is the â€œnext big thingâ€?. Sometimes he/she will be right of course (thatâ€™s how they get to be gurus).</p>
<p>And make no mistake about it â€“ we are equally to blame for this hyped up culture. Letâ€™s face it, itâ€™s so much easier to read or listen to a well presented collection of projected possibilities than it is to do even a little spade work and unearth a few hard facts.</p>
<p>In the first place, we can all be a little lazy. In the second place, itâ€™s nice to close our eyes and dream of the ongoing passive income â€“ such a nice visual picture isnâ€™t it?</p>
<p>And finally, hard facts can be a little bit difficult to come by. Sometimes for genuine reasons â€“ startups often donâ€™t have much more than the reputation of the key players and a business plan â€“ and sometimes for more worrying reasons.</p>
<p>One of the enduring mantras which you will almost certainly have heard is that â€œthe moneyâ€™s in the listâ€?. All the key players not only say this but appear to demonstrate it by the simple fact that they all own and operate large opt-in lists. It would seem reasonable to assume that these list make a significant contribution to their profits.</p>
<p>But letâ€™s see if we can put a little flesh on the bones. First of all we have an assertion â€“ sourced from www.ultimatefour.com â€“ which is as follows:</p>
<p>â€œâ€¦â€¦ a well run list can generate $1/month in revenue for each contact on your list.â€?</p>
<p>It does seem reasonable, but it is still an assertion rather than a fact â€“ and it is qualified by both â€œa well run listâ€? and â€œcan generateâ€?. Even if it isnâ€™t a hard and fast rule, it certainly provides food for thought.</p>
<p>If you build your list up to 3,000 to 5,000 members then you will have a nice income each month. Get to 10,000 members and above and you will be doing very well indeed.</p>
<p>That may sound like a lot to many people â€“ but it should be achievable. Which brings us to what can be considered to be a hard fact â€“ sourced this time from AWeber.</p>
<p>â€œ12,561 subscribers in an average customer opt-in newsletter list.â€?</p>
<p>Presumably this is based on AWeberâ€™s own user base â€“ but it seems valid to accept this as a legitimate fact.</p>

<p>Even if the $1/month figure is wrong â€“ or if you run your list a little less efficiently than normal â€“ you might still reasonably expect to make a 4 figure sum each month.</p>
<p>So itâ€™s true &#8211; the money is in the list. How much depends on the size of the list and how well you run it â€“ but the money is there.</p>
<p>One key thing to watch out for is that your list should be your list â€“ the email addresses must be yours and not the property of whichever company your working with. That way you can promote as many different products and services as you like.</p>
<p>Of course, it takes time and effort to build your list â€“ but it can be done. You can pick up half a dozen new subscribers every day very easily by using nothing other than free techniques. That would take you to over $2000 a month in less than a year. Consider using some paid advertising and your list will grow at a much faster rate â€“ and so will your income.</p>
<p>Whichever method(s) you elect to use in order to build your list â€“ the sooner you start the sooner youâ€™ll start earning. So get cracking.</p>
